Artist of the Month
By: Sandra Rzeczyca
Congrats to junior Marissa Garretto on being named Artist of the Month. She is currently pursuing a double major at Carroll University in Graphic Design and Photography. Garetto, who has a passion for photography and art, and wants to pursue her passion by starting out in Graphic Design by getting her foot in the door, then starting her own photography business.
When working on an art piece, Garetto gets her main inspiration from music, and places that she sees around her. “If I see something interesting, I begin to think of what I can do as a photo shoot in that area. Other art gives me inspiration as well, things that I could do based off of others work,” states Garretto.
Aside from art, Garetto spends working with film, shooting photographs in the dark room and manipulating images in Photoshop. Past projects that Garretto has worked on have included:senior portraits, weddings, engagement shoots, kids, landscapes and fine arts. Music plays a key role in the shooting process that exemplifies a form of identity, emotion, feeling and inspiration. At the moment she’s working on lots of class projects, but her main focus goes towards a project that includes self-portraits based off of music she listens to.
Aside from photography, Garetto likes to work in other mediums like painting and drawing. Garretto’s favorite mediums to work with are photography, drawing and painting. On top of that, she appreciates surrealism and naturalism as a style. She takes admiration from Ansel Adams, Brook Shadens and Sarolta Ban.
Pull Quote: I am working on a lot of class projects, but the one that I am the most invested in is a project where I am doing self portraits based off of music I listen to. Having an identity that shows emotions and feelings, I get when I listen to my music.
