Technology in our life

Technology and the Society: What are the Impacts of Technology Advancements on Human Life?

Technology has improved a great deal from the days of the telephone booth. Today, the telephone booth is phased out and so are so many other technologies from the early days. Technology has been part of the societal evolution. Even as technology evolves, societies have also influenced how these technologies affect our day to day life.

Technology is a creation of the people. It reflects the needs and the culture of the people. While technologies change the way societies behave, societies have also shaped the direction that technology takes.

Technology leaves a mark in the society whether it succeeds or fails. All pieces of technology that exist are to meet the needs of a society in one way or another – as the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. However, by the time the need is completely met, technology has altered the behaviors of the society, enough to bring new problems. Granted, technology keeps evolving and changing human behavior.

The impacts of Technology

Technology affects societies positively and negatively. The intent of every piece of technology is to solve human problems. However, while at it, technology has resulted to more problems. Think of cars, for instance, they help people move from one place to the next but they pollute the environment while at it. The pollution has far-reaching effects to human life including messing up the weather.

The Bright Side of Technology

  • Use of Machines in Agriculture – Today, farmers can do more within a short time than they did many years ago. Machines have replaced simple ancient tools making labor easy and increasing production.
  • Improved Transport – From the days of the steam train to now that we have bullet trains, transported has benefit a huge deal from advancements in technology. Besides the transport vessels such as ships, apps have also joined in such as Uber.
  • Improved Telecommunication – You no longer have to send a raven to deliver message; you can use instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger and many others. You can talk to and see someone from millions of miles away on Skype.
  • Enhanced Education – Learning platforms have come a long way to a time when we have Google, podcasts, YouTube, and so many others. Whether you need to learn a new language, programming, tailoring, drawing, or any other skill, you have a platform to learn.

The Negative Side

Dwindling Resources – Fossil fuels, rare-earth minerals, and so many others are almost depleted. This has impacted Global Warming which has snowballed into so many other problems.

The human population has increased over time even with the invention of contraceptives. Better technologies have led to an increase in lifespans and improvements in reproduction. Technologies have also allowed people to deal with disease outbreaks better.

Pollution has also become a real pain in the universe. Almost every part of the world is destroyed including the atmosphere, the soil, and everywhere else.
